What a Fort Worth Kitchen Remodel
Usually Costs
Kitchen budgets in Fort Worth vary more than most because the homes vary so much. A 1950s Westcliff ranch with a closed galley kitchen is a different job from a Tanglewood kitchen with room for an island. These are the three ranges most of our Fort Worth projects fall into.
Cosmetic Kitchen Update
Keep the layout, replace the surfaces
- Painted or refaced cabinets
- New countertops and tile backsplash
- Lighting, hardware and sink updates
Mid-Range Full Remodel
Common for Wedgwood and Westcliff ranch homes
- New cabinets with quartz or granite tops
- Flooring, sink, faucet and lighting
- Wiring and plumbing brought up to code
High-End Custom Kitchen
Common for larger Tanglewood and Arlington Heights homes
- Walls opened or the layout changed
- Custom cabinetry and a working island
- upgraded surfaces and appliances
Every Fort Worth kitchen is priced after a free in-home visit, with an itemized estimate you can compare line by line.
Kitchen Size
Square footage drives cabinet count, counter length and flooring. Many older Fort Worth kitchens are compact, so we plan storage carefully instead of adding cost you won't use.
Layout Changes
Moving a sink or range means new plumbing, venting or gas lines. In pier-and-beam homes the crawl space can make those moves easier than on a slab, and we check that during the estimate.
Cabinet Quality
Stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets differ in price, box construction and lead time. We bring samples of each so you can see where the money goes.
Countertop Material
Quartz, granite and solid surface are priced by the square foot plus edge work and cutouts. You get the measured price before you choose a slab.
Appliance Upgrades
A larger range or built-in refrigerator can need a new circuit, a gas line or a wider opening. We plan those changes into the cabinet layout so nothing gets cut twice.
Plumbing & Electrical Work
Older Fort Worth homes often need more outlets, GFCI protection and dedicated appliance circuits. That work needs a city permit, and we include it in the estimate.
Fort Worth Kitchens, Neighborhood by Neighborhood
Fort Worth’s west and southwest neighborhoods were built over most of a century, and each era left its own kitchen problems. Fairmount grew up around early-1900s Craftsman bungalows, Westcliff near TCU filled in with brick ranch homes in the 1950s and 60s, and Wedgwood was planned as a ranch-home neighborhood between 1950 and 1970.
Early 1900s Homes
Fairmount, Mistletoe Heights and Ryan Place
- Small kitchens closed off from the dining room
- Pier-and-beam floors that need leveling first
- Old wiring and plumbing past their service life
1950s and 1960s Ranch Homes
Westcliff, Wedgwood and nearby streets
- Closed galley layouts with low soffits
- Two-prong outlets and too few circuits
- A wall between kitchen and den that owners want opened
Larger Established Homes
Tanglewood and Arlington Heights
- Dated finishes from an earlier update
- Room for an island the old layout wastes
- Owners wanting custom cabinetry and better appliances
Fort Worth Permit Rules for Kitchen Remodels
- Cosmetic work like cabinets, countertops, flooring and like-for-like fixtures does not need a permit
- Plumbing, electrical and mechanical changes need a city permit
- Permits are issued by the Development Services Department at 200 Texas Street
- Applications and inspection requests go through the city’s online permitting system
- Work is reviewed to the 2021 International Residential Code with local amendments
- Exterior changes in historic districts such as Fairmount, Ryan Place and Mistletoe Heights need a Certificate of Appropriateness
We pull the permits and book every inspection for you.

Kitchen Remodeling Areas We Serve
FAQ
What does a kitchen remodel cost in Fort Worth?
Most kitchen remodels in Fort Worth land in one of three ranges: around $10,000 for a refresh with new cabinet doors, counters and lighting; around $30,000 for a full replacement in the same layout; and $60,000 and up for a new layout with custom cabinets and an island. Financing is available through a third-party service on our estimates, and we fix the price in writing after a free in-home visit.
How long does a kitchen remodel take in Fort Worth?
Plan on 6 to 10 weeks for a kitchen remodel from demolition to the final walkthrough. Custom cabinets and wall removal sit at the longer end, and the schedule is in writing before we start.
Do I need a permit to remodel a kitchen in Fort Worth?
Cosmetic work such as new cabinets, countertops, flooring and like-for-like fixtures is exempt. Plumbing, electrical or mechanical changes need a permit from the City of Fort Worth Development Services Department. We file the permit and schedule each inspection.
Are there extra rules for historic districts like Fairmount?
Interior kitchen work follows the normal permit rules. If the project changes the outside of the house, such as a new window or door, homes in historic districts like Fairmount, Ryan Place and Mistletoe Heights need a Certificate of Appropriateness. We flag that during planning.
Can you remodel a kitchen in a pier-and-beam house?
Yes. Many older Fort Worth homes sit on pier and beam. We check the floor before we quote, because leveling or subfloor repair may be needed before cabinets and tile go in. The crawl space can also make plumbing moves simpler.
Can I stay in my home during the remodel?
Most clients do. Set up a small temporary kitchen in another room with a microwave, coffee maker and fridge. We seal off the work area and clean up at the end of every day.
Do you build custom cabinets and install countertops?
Yes. We offer stock, semi-custom and custom cabinetry, and we install quartz, granite and solid surface countertops measured in your kitchen.
Can you open the wall between my kitchen and living room?
Often, yes. We first check whether the wall is load-bearing and what runs through it. Removing a load-bearing wall means a beam or header and a permit, and both are included in the estimate.
What if I want to change something mid-project?
Changes are possible. We write a change order that shows the cost and schedule effect, and nothing moves forward until you approve it.
Does Southern Home Remodeling need a Texas contractor license?
Texas does not issue a state license for general remodeling contractors, so there is no license number to show. The plumbing and electrical work on your project is done by state-licensed trades, and we register with the City of Fort Worth for every permit we pull.
Which parts of Fort Worth do you serve?
We work across west and southwest Fort Worth, including Arlington Heights, Fairmount, Mistletoe Heights, Westcliff, Wedgwood and Tanglewood, plus nearby Benbrook and White Settlement. Our office is in Arlington on Sanford Street.
Do you warranty your kitchen remodeling work?
Yes. Our standard workmanship warranty is 12 months, written into your contract. Cabinets, appliances and fixtures carry their own manufacturer warranties.
