Viridian was created by developers Donald and Phillip Huffines on land along the Trinity River. Its Birds Fort Trail recalls Bird's Fort, where an 1843 treaty was negotiated on the Texas frontier in what is now Arlington. Homebuilding began in the early 2010s, and Viridian Elementary School opened inside the community in August 2014. In 2015 Johnson Development and Tricon bought the project.
